Oklahoma Gardening Seminar Offers Growing, Management Tips Feb. 18

Interest in producing vegetables and fruits in personal gardens has continued to grow through recent years.

To assist new gardeners in learning fundamental skills, The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation's Agricultural Division will host a Basic Gardening Seminar from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18, at the Southern Oklahoma Technology Center, located just east of the Noble Foundation's campus in Ardmore, Okla.

"This is a timely event, considering the current economic climate and the public's heightened interest in local foods and healthy living," says Steve Upson, Noble Foundation horticulturist. "We will be sharing a multitude of growing and management techniques that southern Oklahoma gardeners can utilize to make their gardening experience less frustrating and more productive."

Upson will discuss topics such as site; soil and water requirements for crop production; growing and planting techniques; and weed and pest control. A brief discussion on wildlife damage and prevention also will be given.

The event is offered at no charge, but advance registration is required.

You can register by calling Tracy Cumbie at 580-224-6411 or register online at www.noble.org/AgEvents.
